A dental crown has been placed on a tooth by Dr. Pam Crumrine to support it and restore it to its former shape, size, and strength. But now what? How do you care for your dental crown, and thus maintain your oral health?

After having a dental crown placed, as at any other time, it is important to uphold proper dental hygiene. This includes twice daily brushing and daily flossing of all the teeth, including your dental crown. Take particular care around the area where your dental crown and tooth meet the gums. Rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash at least once a day can also help uphold the health of your crowned tooth and your smile. Another way to care for your smile and dental crown is to schedule and keep your regular dental appointments.

To further care for your crown, avoid negative oral habits. These consist of:

– Grinding your teeth
– Clenching your teeth
– Biting your fingernails or other non-food items
– Chewing ice
– Opening packaging with the teeth
